SNOW IN THE SOUTH. (By TeleeraDh—Press Association.) Ashburton, June 15. A heavy fall of snow occurred last night, and is lying about one inch deep this morning. At the foot of the hills three inches of snow fell. Christchurch, June 15. Reports from the back country state that snowy weather is prevalent. Heavy rain fell in the city last night, and this morning the weather is very cold. Auckland, June 15. The coldest temperature up to the pre.sent this year was recorded to-day. At noon the thermometer read oGdeg., and the next lowest was recorded on May 18 last, when the temperature was 57deg. ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES, A FATAL FALL. Charles Matheson, a seaman on the Echunga, was assisting to put the hatches on tho vessel this afternoon when a thwart beam struck him and knocked him down into the empty hold, a fall of 25 feet. He was picked up seriously injured and died in the casualty ward shortly after. Just before . tho fatality, Harold Blair, mate of the vessel, was struck by a beam and his leg severely, injured. DIED SUDDENLY. Auckland, June 15. Mr>. Eliza Jane M'Cullagh, 'aged G9 years, a resident of Kingsland, died suddenly while in conversation with her two daughters. A post mortem and inquesthave been deemed necessary to determine the cause of death. • A CHILD'S DEATH. Auckland, June 15. The seven-months'-old child of Mrs. U Woodward of Frankton Junction, was found dead in bed. It was left in a sitting position by its mother, and fell for ward during her absence, tho face being buried in the bedclothes. CAST ASHORE. Invarcargill, Juno 15. The body cast ashore at Sandy Point bears letters suggesting that the name is Findlay S. Murchison; of Waikaia. In. rjuiries nro being made at Waikaia. FALL FROM A DRAY. Invorcargill, June 15. On Tuesday afternoon, near Lorne Farm, a man named Thomas Jamicsoii was soon to fall from i<. ilrny. He waa picked up, but died on the way to thf hospital. STRUCK BY A TRAM-CAR, Christchurch, June 15. A. lad named Higgs wns run into by a tram-car in Worcester Street to-night and seriously injured, mainly about tho head. Ho was attempting to uross in frunt of a New Brighton car and waa caught by the back fender, which tho conductor dropped, when he saw the lad in danger.
