CHARGE OF SHEEP STEALING
(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Feilding, June 15. Edward Ernest Lawrence milked into the police station in Feilding this morning, and surrendered bimseVl. A charge had been laid against Laivrence of stealing 197 sheep on or about March 27 from William Maxwell, of Waiata. When tto theft was reported to the police inquiries were made, and a week or ago a warrant was issued for the "arrest of Lawrence. This mornjjig he reported himself us stilted, Mid intimated U, Uβ police tnat he intended to plead "guilty" to the offence. The sheep w.eTe valued at ,£l7B 4s. by Maxwell. Lawrence had sold them a-t AYangaahu at 12s. pea , head. Lawrence was taken beforo Messrs. E.. Goadbehero and J. Colilingwood, J.P.'s, this morning, amd the clrarge was read oyeT to-him'. Mr. Gillespie appeared for him. Sergeant Bowdon usked the Count to remand the hearing till Tuesday next, and this was agTeed to. Bail was allowed: Self in ,£2OO and two sureties of JSIOO each. Messrs. S, Hall and J. Dar> ragh ware the sureties.
