Some little time ago Mr. Hugh C. Williams, of Mastcrton, wrote tho Prime Minister suggesting tho use of petroleum on main road thoroughfares. A reply ha's boen received from Sir Joseph Ward (writes our Mastorton correspondent) thanking Mr. Williams for his suggestion, and informing him that the proposal would bo brought under tho notice of tho Public Works Department after having been approved by the local authority. Tho Primo Minister staled that crude petroleum was not yet being obtained in sufficient quantities .in Tnranaki to enable its being used on roads in a wholesales way.
