(From Oar Special Correspondent.) .■' *—■ ■ ' Tliej ratepayers of Lower Hufcfc .weregiven an opportunity of discussing '■ the £80,000 loan for the installation-of an electric tramway service for .the Valley at the Town Hall on Saturday evening. Mr.' J.'- "W. 'M'Ewan (chairman of tho hoard; 'stated the position on much the game lines as was done at the meeting at\Petone on Friday,. He commenced by giving an absolute denial to tho Tumour that the board were paid for their services." "The board had not received one for their services," said Mr. M'Ewan, "and were acting entirely in the interests of the ratepayers." In comparing the motor-bus v. electric service, 'the speaker quoted from the returns of Leicester, England, where both services were installed.' The electric service showed a profit of .£2OOO, whilst the motor-bus Bervico showed a loss of £37,000. It was the board's object to install an up-to-date system. A number' of questions were answered. A meeting of the Hutt No-License League will be held in the' Wesleyan class-room on Tuesday next to : reeon- , sider the appointment of delegates to the approaching conference. ' ~ A large number of people was present at the Pctone Recreation Ground yesterday when the Pctone Brass Band ■rendered ah enjoyable programme of music. . , - At the Petono Heretaimga Boating Club's "social," to be held in the Drill Hall next Wednesday.evening, the principal trophies to be presented are: Tho Wilford Cup (an aggregate prize which cannot be won outright), awarded to Messrs. Bittle and M'Donald's Buna; and an inter-club challenge cup won by Mr. E. Bailey's Nan. A meeting of the Pctone Ambulance Committee will be held in tho Mayor's room on Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock.
