THE MAN FROM THE SOUTH. The recent Labour split in connection with the Auckland by-election has been the cause of much ill-feeling in the ranks of the workers, and considerable dissatisfaction was expressed at Mr. G. I. At tho conclusion of Mr. M'Knight's address one of tho audience wanted to know what had become of tho funds subscribed to the Labour movement in furtherance of Mr. M'lCnight's candidature. The men from the south had said that-the choice of voters was""nd't wide enough, and he (Mr. M'Knight) had, in reply, stated that,, as far as ho was concerned, they could make it as wide as possible. The;» did so, and at the Choral Hall meeting •he received a. majority of 39. Mr v M'Knight then related the incidents' which had led up to his rejection by tho Central Committee. Tho Central Committee, ho said, had in their pockets a man from' the south. Mr. T. IS. Taylor, M.P., had said they should be unanimous on one man, and that man was Mr. T. J. M'Bride, of Christchurch, their second string was Mr. G. Davis. Yet, when the people had expressed their wishes, the Central Committee had not recognised them.
