It is officially announced hero that Belgium has been admitted to tho Canadian intermediate tariff on all products similar to the French products covered by tho Franco-Canadian treaty. This does not include the fixed rates granted to some French specialties. The Netherlands will receive tho same treatment as Belgium. The arrangement with Italy (tho Can-adian-Italian provisional agreement recently cabled) gives Canada the benefit of Italy's conventional tariff on eighteen items, including timber, lumber, furniture, carria'go woods, wood pulp, paper, boots and shoes, tools, implements, and sewing machines. Italy receives the benefit of the Canadian intermediate tariff on eighteen items, including canned vegetables, limejuice, fruit syrups, certain qualities of wines, velvets, and ribbons. UNITED STATES AND CANADA. FORMER'S ADVANCES. (Rec. June 12, 5 p.m.) Ottawa, June 11. The Canadian Minister of Finance, Mr. Fielding, states that the tariff negotiations with the United States will begin in the autumn, when Ministers will reassemble. The spirit which President Taft and Secretary Knox manifest affords grounds for hoping that better trade relations are possible between the United States and Canada, but whether tho movement succeeded or not, Canada felt bound to respond to tho United States' friendly approaches. DUTIES DIRECTED AT THE OLD COUNTRY. AN IRON AND STEEL PLEA. (Rec. June 12, 5 p.m.) London, Juno 11. Tho committee of tho British Iron' Trade Association has forwarded to tho Board of Trade and the Foreign Office a memorial urging them to secure certain modifications in the Japanese, Swedish, and Australian tariffs on iron and steel goods.
