WOMEN WORKERS.

The number of women day-workers— charwomen, etc.—at present applying for work in Wellington is very large (states the Labour Department's journal) and work cannot be found for all. A number of these women are of a ■ deserving and capable class, and have families to support. Many employers have found it- of considerable help to avail themselves of their services ,-for two or three days per week, and aro thus able to manage without other domestic assistance. !3omc of the workers expressed'a desire to take up work in the country districts, and inquiries are now being made by the Department to see if any of them can be placed in small country towns where they aro likely to. obtain sufficient engagements to enable, them to earn a living.
