CHOOTE SOHUUR. PRIME MINISTER MAY NOT OCCUPY IT. By Telozrapu-Prcss Associatlon-CoDJTlelil (Rec. June 12, 5 p.m.) Pretoria, Juno 11. It is reponed that the salary of General Botha, as Prime Minister of the Union, will he £4000 a year. Other Ministers, it is stated, will receive £3000 a year. It is reported that General Botha will not avail himself of Mr. Cecil Rhodes's bequest of Groote Schimir as his official residence. [Under his famous will, the late Mr. Cecil Rhodes bequeathed his residence, De Grooto Schuur (i.e., the Great Granary, or Barn), near Capo Town, with its contents, and all his land under Table Mountain, to the Federal Government of South Africa (when constituted), the house for the Prime Minister, and the other lands for public purposes, with an income of a year for maintenance.] SIR P. FITZPATRICK AND BOTHA. Pretoria, June 10. The impending contest between General Botha and Sir Percy Fitzpatrick for the East Pretoria seat in the South African Parliament is causing great controversy. Mr. Merriman, Premier of Capo Colony, declares that ho will support General Botha's Government. [A previous cable message stated that surprise was expressed at General Botha contesting tho East Pretoria seat against Sir Percy Fitzpatrick (a Progressive leader when ho might have been elected unopposed for some other constituency.!
