MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL.
THE GORGE ROAD. The monthly meeting of the Makara County Council yesterday was attended by Councillors P. T. Mooro (chairman), Hawkins, Bryant, Ilaggcrty, Monk, and Eastwood. A deputation, of which Mr. Leigh ton was the chief spokesman, asked the council to prohibit the use of tho Ngahauranga Gorge Read by steam wagons, 011 account or danger to other traffic. Mr. Mace, of Messrs. Mace and Nicholson, quarry-owners, and Air. W. G. Foster, managing director of tho Wellington- Meat Export Co., Ltd., also attended, and put the other side of the case. Tho council adjourned its discussion of the subject. Messrs. Morison and M'Lean, on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Prosser, applied to have the road from Porirua to Titahi Bay widened, so as to give 'access to their property, .This is a privato road, and tho council, after discussing the question with Mr. Morison, who attended for the purpose, decided to approach the owner of the road with a view to having, it widened. '1110 Railway Department wrote asking permission to run storm water into the drain at Ngahauraiiga, near the stationmaster's residence. The request was granted. It was resolved to ordor 300 yards of metal for Porirua and Tawa Flat. . A rate of 3d- in tile £ 011 all rateable property in the county for tho ye f ir ending March 31, 1011, was struck. The council, at a special meeting, adopted by-laws relating to noxious weeds. A special order declaring broom, gorse, ragwort, foxglove, ox-eye daisy, tauhinu, milk-thistle, and tutsan to be noxious weeds was made. Accounts amounting to £286 os. sd. were passed for payment.
