ATHLETIC SPORTS.
FOOTBALL. TO-DAY'S GAMES. .What- should prove to be.two .very fino games are set down for decision this afternoon, Petone versus Ponekc, at the Lower llutt, and Oriental versus St. James at the Athletic I'ark, and probably patrons will have some difficulty in deciding v.-hich ground t-o patronise. For some, years the meeting between Poueke. and Petone has been looked for to provide one of tlie keenest contests in local cup football, and with two such teams meeting there should bq -some good football. Oriental and St. ■ James .stand out as the only two unbeaten teams among the seniors so that something out of the ordinary may be expected in their game. Both teams will be at full strength except that Molfatt, of St. James, has been compelled to stand down, and Roberts will oe missing from behind tlio Oriental scrum. On account of the shortness of the afternoon, games at the.'park will (as was suggested recently m The Dominion) now commence at 2.45. The train to the Hutt leaves Lambton at 2.20. Melrose Club.
