BOY SCOUTS.

INTERESTING COMPETITIONS. Conditions governing the competitions to bo held in conjunction with the entertainment organised by the troops of tho To Aro district, to be held in the Town Hall (concert chamber) on Satifr(lay, June 25, at S p.m., have been drafted as follows:— 1. Competitors shall bo bona fide members of registered troops within the Wellington, Scout District, and shall have boon "sworn in" on or before Ist June. 2. First aid competitions shall ho as for first aid test, as laid down in "Scouting for Boys" for iirst-class badge. a. Competitors in semaphore signalling will bo verbally examined in—(a) Counting words and signs; (b) message form and its use; (c) establishing a station and working same; (d) station calls; (e) duties on stations; and also must road and send "group" nnd "paragraph" messages at the rate of 78 letters a minute. Marks will bo given for position and stylo in sending. •I. Hut-building competition shall .be according to the plan for hut-building as prepared for the Kitchener camp. Scoutmasters may obtain copies of instructions from Lieutenant-Commander M'Leod.

5. Competitors in bugle playing must be prepared to play "Scout Cull" and selections from following army calls:— Alarm, charge, orderlies (orderly corporals), orders, warning for parade, quarter bugle, fall in, dismiss, rations,, first and second dinner calls (men's), reveille, last post, lights out. ' G. Knotting competition shall 'cousin'' of three knots, to he selected fro\n tho following—(1) Reef. (2) sheet-bend, (3) half-hitch, (4) sheep-shank, (5).' bowlino, (G) clove hitch, (7) fisherman's, (8) middleman's. Harks will bo given for speed, and also for ability to tie knots blindfolded. " " ' 7. Entries are free, and close on Monday, Juno 20, at 8 p.m. Applications must bo made in writing through tho officer in charge of troop to which competitors belong, and should be sent as soon as possible, to Scoutmaster Rhodes, 54, Mortimer Terrace, Wellington. Prizes of £1, 10s., and ss. will .lie given to the three troons (respectively) selling the greatest number of tickets.
