TARANAKI WINTER SHOW.
. FURTHER DETAILS. Tie Taranaki Agricultural Society has made a piomising beginning with its first winter show, now being held in New Plymouth. The space originally provided for the exhibits was found to bB far too email,, and had to be enlarged. Though the show is not a large one, the produce Bhown is of good quality pretty well right through. ■ .. The butter and cheese exhibits were judged by Messrs. D. Cuddie (the Dairy Commissioner) and J. Johnston anil Wright, graders under, the Dairy 'Division. The judges remarked ' that the quality of the butter and cheese shown was very■ creditable on the whole. -The exhibits which were awarded the prizes were of good quality, as would be noted from the points allotted in the different classes. The judges also mentioned that no inferior produce had been placed before them for examination. . The results .were as follow:— Best box of factory butter, suitable for export.—Pihama Co-operative Dairy Co. (J. O'Dea); flavour, 45ipts.; body, 23}pts.; salting, lOpts.; colour, 10 pts.; finish, spts.; total, 94pts., 1. Bunnythorpe Co-operative Dairy ■ Co. (C. Edwards); flavour, 45pts.; body, 23Jpts.; salting, lOpts.; colour, lOpts.; finish, spts.; total, P3ipts., 2. Taihape'Dairy Factory (J. Campbell); flavour, 44Jpts.; body, 23Jpts.; salting, , lOpts.; colour, lOpts.; finish, spts.; total, 93pts., 3. . The other competitors were as follow, nil receiving full points for colour, finish', and salting, and all oxcept Heretaunga and Hillsborough gaining 23Jpts. for body, these, two factories being half a point behind in this respect:—Norsewood, 92Jpts.; Omata, 92pts.; Lepperton, Kaponga, Heretaunga, Bell Block, and Mangorei, ■ each 9Upts.; Oakura and Hillsborough, each Slpts. Mr. William Perry lias received advice that the Lincoln sheep which were sent over to the Argentine: with Mr. Short's Itomneys were unplaced. The judges coneidered them on the small side. As they were six months younger than those from the Old Country with which they were competing, Mr. Perr ycr.pected that ho would be beaten. He ulsr explains that the fact of the judgi- being n well-known Lincoln breeder from Englnnd was not in his favour. Word has also beon rcceivrd by Mr. 'Ferry that five two-tooth stivl Lincoln*, cold by him to an Argentine breeder, have arrived sufely, and the purchaser is pell satisfied. A branch of the Farmers' Union has been formed at Ohura. ■
