THE COLONIAL ARTICLE.
SADDLERY FOR THE TERRITORIALS. (By Tele.craDh.—SDecial Correspondent.) Auckland, June 9. The Government has power when importing anything for its own use to do so freo of duty, and Auckland saddlers and harnessmakers feared that the saddlery and other gear for the Territorials might be brought in under this exemption clause, New Zealand tradesmen being unable to compete under those circumsUuices. The Prime Minister, however, assured a deputation that the colonial article would always receive preference, and the exempting clause had never been. applied to imported saddlery.
