The Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) atid the Hon. Dr. Findlay are returning to Wellington via the Main Trunk ex'press to-day. The Hon. E. M'Kcnzie, Minister for Public Works, is suffering from a severe cold, which prevented him from attending at his office at the Government Buildings yesterday. The Hon. J. A. MillaT (Minister for Railways) has advised Mr. Field, M.P., that he will visit his district before returning to Wellington. Hβ will leave Palmerston North by motor-oar at 10 a.m. on Saturday, and proceed through Lincoln and Tokomaru to Shannon, for the purpose of receiving deputations with reference to railway matters. It is probable that lie will return to Wellington the same evening. The Hon. G. Fowlds (Minister for Education), who has been on a visit to Auckland, returned to Wellington last night. Mr. A. S. Malcolm, M.1 , , for Clutha, intends to be a candidate for a seat on the Otago Education Board. Mr. John Roberts, C.M.G., of Dunedin, is a visitor to Wellington. Mr. E. M'Nab, who has been pursuing his historical research work in America and Europe, is expected to reach Wellington by the steamer Araiva on or about Sunday next. . . Mr. Arthur S. Browne has resigned the county clerkship of Bruce, Otago, and his resignation has been accepted. The Eev. D. Borrie has been appointed a vice-president of the National Bible Society of Scotland. The number of vicepresidents is limited by the rules. A vacancy arose through a death, and the board (says the "Outlook") desired, by appointing Mr. Borrie, to express its appreciation of his long-continued interest in Bible Society work, and also of the valuable help' afforded by the Otago Bible Society., The latest news in regard to the health of Dr. Nisbet, of Dunedin, is a shade more encouraging. Dr. Nisbet, who left New Zealand for Sydney about three weeks ago, has (says the "Outlook") undergone an exhaustive examination at the hands of a specialist, with the result that his health is-reported to have very much improved as compared with October last, when he was in New South Wales. The medical man expressed himself as much pleased with the improvement. Unfortunately Dr. Nisbet has since contracted a chill and developed inflenza, but it is hoped that this will speedily yield to treatment, and that the improvement in Dr. Nisbet's health may continue, i Mr. Sidney Wilson, who has been submanager at Lyttelton for the Union Steam Ship Company for some months, and who has resigned to enter into business with his father in Wellington, will be succeeded by Mr. W. V. Craske, submanager at the Blulf office of the company.

Mr. Eobt. Home, Christchurch, manager for the Dresden Piano Company, is leaving for England by the Arawa next month on business connected with the company.

Mr. H. E, H. Chalmers, of the Hawera staff of the Bank of New Zealand, has been promoted to be accountant 'at Eltham. Mr. F. Wylds, from Gisborne, will succeed Mr. Chalmers.

Mr. B. H. Pascoe, who has been resident secretary in New Zealand for the Australian Widows' Fund Life Assurance Society for tho past two years, returns to Victoria next week.

Colonel Saunders, architect of tho Salvation Army for Australasia, is due to arrive at Auckland on Monday next, and will reach Wellington on June 17, leaving the same night for Christchurch and Dunedin, in the course of a hurried tour of the Dominion on bis special business.

Colonel Enight and Staff-Captain Orames, of the Salvation Army, leave to day for Cambridge, Waihi, Auckland, and Inglewood. They are due back in Wellington on June 21.

Brigadier Bray, secretary of the Men's Social Work of the Salvation Army, leaves to-morrow on visits of inspection to Auckland and Eltham. He will be absent about a fortnight.

Colonel Knight, Brigadiers Holdaway and Glover, Major Kirk (Christchurch), and Staff-Captain Orames will attend the first council of staff officers of tho new Salvation Army Commissioner, Colonel Hay, which will open in Melbourne on July 21. This will be one of the most important staff councils that the Army in Australasia has yet held. The New Zealand officers will be absent on the journey about three weeks.

Mr. A. Dobbie. of the Magistrate's Court staff, will leave for Stratford next week, to undertake relieving duty at tho Magistrate's Court there.

Mr. and Mrs. A.' Fitzherbort, of Aorangi, are visiting Wellington. Our Feilding correspondent states- that they intend proceeding to Australia on an extended holiday trip.

Mr. Adam Bell (Blenheim), Mr. Horton (Blenheim), and Dr. M'Knight are etnrins at tho Occidental Hotel.

Tho death of one of Rangitikci's oldest settlers, Mr. William Hammond, took place on Monday, at the residence of his brother, Mr. Jolm Hammond, Murchii-on, Eflta. Deceased v:ns the eldest son of the late Mr. Richard Hammond, of York Farm, where he was born 62 years ago, and has resided in tho district ever since. For many years he, with his ?jrofliers, farmed York Farm, and after tho dispersal sale was interested in s. big extent of country in the Rangitikei Block Of later years Mr. Hammo-nd resided at Rata.

Mr. Robert Bristy, a retired carpenter and builder, who had lived'in.Napier for about thirty years, was found dead' at his residence in that town yesterday evening. He was in his seventieth year, and was unmarried. He had been in indifferent health of late. Deceased was well known in Napier bowling circles.— Pnws Association. Mr. 3. F.
