In butter and cheese there ore 281 entries; apples . alone 258. . Eighteen (separate collections are being entered /for the championship section, representing both Islands. Tho following are tho results of the Toko Farmers' Union turnip-growiug' competition, which was judged a few days ago by .Messrs. E. "Walters and J. L. Lucena. Mr. .T. J. Martin (Huiroa) was first, with a total of 72 points, and an average of 23 tons 11 cwt. 3 (jrs. to the acre of first rate turnips. Mr. W. H. Were (Toko) was second, witli a total of .69 points, artd 23 toils 12 cwt. 3 qrs. to the acre. Jlr. A. Campbell (Toko Road), was third, with (J2i points;, and 21 tons 7 cwt. 1 qr. to the acrc. All the crops except Jlr. Martin's showed some .signs of rot. Mr. Alex. Saunders' .'it Moutoa closed this week for'the winter months. Messrs. A. and L. Seifert's, Ltd., Miranui mill stopped three strippers some days back. Messrs. Ross and Eedshaw's Makerua mill will bo closed shortly.
