BILLIARDS.
LINDRUM BEATS WILLIAMS.
In the billiard match at Melbourne between Lindrum (the holder) and Williams (the challenger) for the championship of Australia, Lindrum won by 1781 points in 16,000 up. According to a writer in the Sydney "Referee," Williams proved himself to be a much better, player during the final stages of his game with Lindrum than tho first appearances led ' watchers to anticipate. If a trifle hesitating and slow at times, he played a nice, clean, easy game, with but little effort. Close ball-to-ball cannons is his long suit, whoro he exhibits a delicacy of touch not even surpassed by Stevenson. Although Lindrum's average of 33 up to tho Saturday night was an excellent one, he hardly did -himself justice,.and on occasions played some vory feeble billiards. Shots that a thirdrate amateur would make certain of were missed repeatedly, much to the lad's disgust. Evidently he is not yet sufficiently matured to stand the strain - of long games.
