AUCKLAND ELECTION.
FIVE CANDIDATES NOMINATED. (By Telegraph..—Press Association.) ■'■■'■■ Auckland, June 8. The nominations closed to-day for the Auckland City East by-election as follow:— . Mr. Arthur If. Myers, Independent. Liboral. Mr. William Richardson, Prohibitionist and Protectionist. Mr. George Davis, Labour. • Mr. George Irving M'Knight, Labour. Mr. Reginald Walter Hill, Unofficial Oppositionist. (Mr. Hill was for some time private secretary to Mr. Massey.) The election will take place on Thursday of next week.
THE TEMPERANCE SUPPORT. A special meeting of members of tho Auckland City Prohibition and Temperance League was held in tho Wesley Hall, Pitt Street, on Monday evening, tor the purpose of considering which candidate it should support in the election for Auckland East. TUero was a largo attendance, over which Mr. R. French presided. Addresses were delivered by Messrs. G. M'Knight and Geo. Davis, two of the candidates who are standing in the. Labour interests, and a deputation was received from tho supporters of Mr. William Richardson, who is out as an Independent. In the final ballot it was decided to support the candidature of Mr. Dans.
