TRAMWAY MEN'S NEEDS.
APPEAL TO THE PEIMB MIMSTEE, (By TeleeraDh—Press Association.) Auckland, Jane 8. A deputation, from the Auckland Tram, ways Employees' Union waited upon tie Prime Minister to-day to urge the rein,-" traduction of tho Tramways Bill, which was shelved last session. Mr. Arthur Rosser said that the Bill last session was hung up chiefly as :he result of the opposition raised by Mr. T. E. Taylor, M.P. One of the things most desired in' Auckland was the creatioi of an appeal board. Such a board existed in Wellington, and in Auckland therewas a great need for one. Under ) tho present system there was a'remedy, but a stringent and rather undesirable action, if men wanted redress and could not receive it- . Mr. Kosser further referred to tho dangers of overcrowding and the need for the licensing of motormeu. ' Mr. Richardson (president of the Tramway Employees' Union) said that tho question of overcrowding cars is Auckland was a most serious one. There had been cases of manslaughter brought against motormen and conductors arising out of accidents which were, in many cases, the result of overcrowding. ' The; cars in Auckland were often packed to their utmost capacity, ami that did not' tend to tho safety of the public. Tho Prime Minister said .- that tn« Tramways Bill would be brought down, early in tho coming session, and hft hoped to see- it placed on tho statute^ book earljr.
