The Dunedin Jockey Club commenced its winter meeting to-day in fiiio weather, and there was a very good attendance. The totalisator investments amounted to £10,082 10s., as against £7682.105. for the corresponding day last year. Thirteen bookmakers were licensed. Results:— ■•' . This Jeft Wanganui in the lead, followed by Tho Gunner, Takely, and Homeward. Homeward fell at the first fpnoo of tho double in the straight. Passing tho stand The Gunner led Wanganui and Takely and then a long way back enmo Honest Tom and St. Kooringa. Takely baulked at the post and rails, leaving only two with a chance, mid of these Tho Gunner won by * nearly three lengths. After a long interval Honest Tom just beat St. Kooringa for third place. sent north from Hawera to fulfil his engagement. Audax, who is generally supposed to bo one of the finest 'chasors in the Dominion, will bo makme; his first public appearance over the Ellerslie country.
