ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
« — : — AN A.B.'S DEATH. VERDICT 01' ACCIDENTALLY DROWNED. An inquiry regarding the death of James Tall, "A.8., whoso body was found in the harbour yesterday morning, was hold by Air. fiasolden, S.M., at the morgue yesterday. Richard Huggins, mate of the-steamer Aorerc, said lie last saw deceased alive at 5 p.m. on Tuesday last, at which time ho was quite sober. George Cypior, a wharf labourer, testified that he saw deceased last at 10.7 on Tuesday night. He was then going towards the Working Men's Club, and told witness to tako his place on the Aorerc the next day. Deceased had then had a few drinks. Witness supposed that lie wanted him to take his place—a common custom—so that he (tho deceased) could have a day oft', as it. was pay 4ayf the next day. At 7.15 the next morning witness'' found deceased's cap on tho wharf near the Aorere. Ho was told that deceased had not gone on board the night before. Ho reported the mailer to the police, and a search for the body resulted in its being found yesterday morning near to the spot where tho cap was picked up. John Fox, a boaruinghouso keeper, of 141 Willis Street, said .that ho saw deceased at about 0.55 on Tuesday night. Deceased was then uuder the influence of drink. Captain A. H. Fisk, of the Aorere, testified the deceased had been an A.B. on bis ship for six months. Ho had seen hi mon Tuesday afternoon, when deceased had asked him for money, which was refused. Deceased was single, 47 years of age, and, as far as witness knew, he had no relatives in the Dominion. Constable Quirk, who discovered the body in the harbour, said there were no marks of violence on the body, and no money in the pockets. i A verdict of "accidentally drowned", was given by tho coroner. BODY IDENTIFIED. (By Telegraph—Prc.ss Association.) Auckland, June 2. A body found in the harbour on Monday has been identified as 'that of Alfred Robert Greenway, CO years of age. Deceased practised as a solicitor in Auckland some years ago, and at one time possessed considerable property. ACCIDENT TO A SHUNTER. A railway shunter named Frederick Tietgens had his hand crushed between the buffers of two trucks at the Upper Hutfc yesterday. He was brought in to the Wellington Hospital for treatment.
