Police Court Sidney Saunders ww charged with having stolen from hie employers, Tonson Garlick and Co., sum* of money totalling ,£IOO6. Saunders has been in the employ of the company for' eleven years, the last eight as head ])00k* keeper and assistant cashier. His salary for some time has been <£234 per annum. An examination of l\is books resulted in fifty irregularities being traced. Accused, when arrested, gave the detectives a written confession admitting that he frequently stole money belonging to the firm. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence. LABOUR ORGANISER. Christchurch, June 2. , At a meeting of all branches of the Labour party held at the Trades Hall on Monday evening it* was decided to appoint an organiser for the party fot the purpose of visiting the country districts, and Mr. T. Townsend, of Blenheim, was appointed at a salary of «£a per week which is to cover all expenses, excepting cost of halls for meetings and "advertising. Mr. Townsend is expected, in ChristehuTch at the end of the week. He lias-resided for about seven years in the Dominion, and was previously en« .■•aged in organising work in Australia. 3ETTING ON SPORTS GROUND. Dannevirke, June 2. A man named Chas. Allan F. Young, a clerk in the Post and Telegraph Department, who pleaded guilty to two charges of. theft of small sums from the Government, was to-day sentenced to six months' imprisonment on each charge,' terms to ho concurrent BUTTER FACTORY GUTTED.
