At tlio criminal sessions of the Aucfc land Supreme Court to-day a farmer named Henry James Hansen, who created a sensation at Ngunguru, in the Whangarci district on April lo last, by firing at and wounding his sou, Arthur Jaine." Accused, who pleaded not guilty, is a middle-aged man and a successful farmer. It was alleged against him that his treatment of his wife was not that of a good husband, and l in' consequence oi the troubles that had arisen the son, Arthur .Tames, who is farming on his own account in the Wsikato, visited the household at Ngunguru on April 14, with the intention of titling his mother awny. The accused objected to this proceeding, and had an altercation with his son, culminating in the shooting affray on the following morning. The dofeucc \va& that the prisoner had no intention of inflicting actual bodily harm, and, further, that the great provocation he hat' received had unhinged his mind, causing him to lose his self-control. Hie hearing lasted until 10.3i1, when the case was adjourned till to-morrow.
