MUCH TRAVELLED SOLDIERS.
SIXTH N.Z.M.B. Of the various contingents dispatched to South Africa between the years 180 a and 1902 each had some peculiar distinction. The First, Second, and Third Contingents departed when the situation seemed at its gravest, tho Fourth wero sent out on the flood-tide of wartime feeling—tho best-equipped of all the contingents. The Seventh carries the memories and scars ol Bothasberg, and, indeed, each quota had something attached to its history which it can claim peculiarly as its own. To the Sixth fell tho distinction of having covered a much greater mileage on trek than any. It was' the "much-travelled -1 contingent.
The annual reunion of the Sixth was held at Godber's Rooms last evening. Lieutenant Quintan presided over a gathering of about fifty members, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. Musical items, recitations, and reminiscent yarns filled up the gaps between the usual toast speeches. Lieutenant Beamish, secretary of the regiment, read a number of letters from absent members, conveying good wishes. Before the evening's programme commenced, thoso present stood to attention, while the Dead March was played, as a tribute to the memory of his late Majesty Kimr Edward VII. *■
