CITY RESERVES.

THE ,TEAK'S . ESTIMATES. PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS. ' The estimates of the Reserves Committee for the year 1910-11 were before the City Council last night. Last year the receipts from the reserves were 18s. lid., and the expenditure thereon was £9496 ]6s Id. The receipts for this 'year are estimated at .£750 ' and the expenditure at £7823 10s. The last-named sum is mainly accounted for by the item "ordinary services ,£5000." In addition to this the committee proposes to spend on Newtown Park, .£485 on the Botanical Gardens. .£SO on Kelburne Park, .£l5O on the Duppa Street gTound, •£577 on Anderson Park, £400 on gorso cutting, £150 on tree planting, £100 on making paths on the Tinakori Hills, £100 on the Kilbirnie Reserve, and £200 on improvements at Lyall Bay. The work to be done at Newtown Park includes fencing and carriage drive (£100), and fellcing and planting shrubbery at Roy Street .(£150). . ■

Receipts from tho baths are estimated at £950, and expenditure £0-41, including a beginnors' bath in the ladies' portion at To Aro, £200. Last year's receipts were £904, expenditure £1857.

The cemetery estimates are: Receipts £2050, expenditure £1700. Last year's receipts £2014, expenditure £1717.

Receipts for the Zoo are estimated at X 25, expenditure XISOO. This includes extraordinary expenditure for x a house for keas, emus, and ostriches ,£IOO, and for a glass house for less hardy specimens requiring warmth in winter and for accommodation of a series of reptiles, fish, and insects ,£4OO. Receipts last year <£21, expenditure .£1739.

The estimates were referred to the Finance Committee along with a further recommendation of tho Reserves Committee that a sum of .£SOO should be allocated out of the District Fund, in addition to tho estimates to meet any extraordinary expenditure that may in the opinion of tho council be deemed requisite during the present year.
