■ 1 . BARRY'S. TRAINEE. Bt TeleCTanh—Prese Aseociation-Oopyrieht (Keo. June 1, '8.10 p.m.) i Perth, June 1. Referring to the appointment of Phelps as trainer of Barry, in place of T. Sullivan, a copy of the "Sportsman" to hand by mail.says that Phelps (who had been acting as pacemaker to Barry under Sullivan's direction) "is considered the second fastest sculler in the United Kingdom, and the most successful coach we have. Another thing in his favour is his practical knowledge of boat-building. The race will be decided where, the inhabitants have not seen a eculling boat, and Phelps's ability to repair any possible accident will give confidence to those in England."
