■. ■ < SITTING IN WELLINGTON. The annual conference under the ane>. pices of the N.Z. Civil Service Association opened in Wellington yesterday, Mr. G. Allport, of Wellington, one of the representatives on behalf of tiie Auckland branch presiding. __ ' . ■' In tho annual report, which was adopted, reference was made to the necessity for the establishment of . a monthly journal for civil servants. The total membership was given at 1163, and it was stated that the retrenchment! schome had affected the membership, Another matter alluded to in the report was the need for pushing on with the classification, of the service. This waa stated to be the most important work for the association to deal with in the immediate future. It was decided to urge the Government to exempt contributions to the superannuation fund from payment of income tax; also that officers receiving payment in the way of house allowance, rent, etc, should have such amounts assessed as salary for the purpose of superannuaTh'o conference will meet again this> evening. ■ .
