ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
>■ — FINANCIAL TROUBLES. (by Teleerapli—Press A ssnriafion.l Gisborne, May 30. Henry Pardee committed suicide at Waerenga Ahika by cutting his throat. His wife had left him in bed with the children, and on returning from a neighbour's two hours later, found him dead. Deceased, who had been brooding over financial troubles, leaves four young children. TRAP FATALITY. Gisborne, May 30. George Barron, sheep farmer, who was injured in a trap accident a few days ago, died last night. He had' been 20 years in the district.
' , CEREBRAL COMPRESSION. Timafu, May 30. Mrs. Richard Cowles, aged 64, died suddenly at her son-in-law's residence yesterday. Medical evidence showed at the inquest that there had been a rupture at the base of the brain. A verdict of death from cerebral, compression was returned.
■.DEATH ON AN OIL LAUNCH. Auckland, May 30. A 6ingle man, named Henry Charles Stevens, aged 2R, died sudiltnly on the oil launch Floral to-day. He had been working nn « farm at Mnratai, and complained yesterday of feeling unwell. He was advised to consult a doctor, and joined the Vloral at Whitford to-day for Auckland, but when the launch was off Howick Stevens suddenly expired. The body was brought on to tho city, and placed in the morgue. FALL BETWEEN CARRIAGES. Christchurch. May 30. A well-known .resident of Lyttellon, Mr. R. Richardson, iproprietor of the British Hotel, was killed by falling off the 4.30 p.m. train from Lyttelton to Christchurch to-night. It appears that he was standing on the gangway between two carriages, and lost his balance and fell on the track with fatal consequences.
KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR-CAR. Thi-re was eome excitement in Willis Street at about a quarter past nine last evening, when a motor-car ran into a citizen who was crossing the- street in front of it. According- to some of those who saw the incident, the horn was sounded in time to warn the pedestrian, and the brake was applied, but the car skidded j for several yards'and struck the unfortunate citizen, who was dragged along under the car for a few yards. Subsequently he was taken into the Britannia Hotel, and -medical aid was called in. Ho was somewhat scratched and bruised, but was able to walk home shortly afterwards.
