FAST LONG-DISTANCE FLIGHT BY CURTISS. OUTSTRIPS A SPECIAL TRAIN. By TelecraDb—Presa Association— CrtDyrlebt New York, May 29. Mr. Glenn H. Curtiss (the biplanist who was victor at the Itheims aviation tourney last year) won the "New York World's" 10,000 dollars prize for an aeroplane flight from Albany to Governor's Island, Now York Harbour. Ho covered 150 miles iu 1(15 minutes (this time does not include two stoppages). (Rec. May 31, 0.30 a.m.) New York, May 30. Mr. Curtiss made his trip in perfect weather. He outstripped a special train following him. The highest point the aeroplane reached was a thousand feet. The journey was a duplication of Fulton's steamboat trip in 1807. PAULHAN AT SOLFERINO. Rome; May 29. The French biplanist, M. Paulhan (who won the London to Manchester prize, holds the altitude record, and has been described by Mr. Wilbur Wright as "the world's most skilful flier"), flew from Yerona (Italy) to Solferino. He alighted on the battlefield, and laid a wreath on the tomb of French soldiers who fell there. H® then flew back to Verona. "AUTOMATICALLY STABLE." A LONG FLIGHT WITHOUT USING STEERING GEAR. London, May 29. Lieutenant Dunne made a two-and-a-half miles' flight at the Island ijf Sheppey, Kent, without using the steering levers of his machine. He did this with the purpose of proving that his biplane is automatically.. stable.
