TECHNICAL EDUCATION BOARD.

REPORT ON WOOL-CLASSING.

A meeting of tho Wollington Technical Education Board held on Friday was attended by Messrs. T. Ballinger (chairman), J.. P. Luke, M.P., T. Carmiohael, and D. Robertson. . Tho Bub-committco appointed to inquire linto t'lio proposal to establish classes for instruction in wool-classing reported that tho following resolutions had been drawn up and agreed to:—(1) That tho Wool Brokers' Association bo asked to appoint a member to sit on tho committee; and (2) that tho Wellington Woollen Co. be asked to appoint an export to represent them on tho committee. Tho committee viewed tho old plumbers' shop to seo if it could bo mado to. serve for the purpose of tho wool-sorting class. Tho committee adjourned pending the appointments resolvod on. Consideration, of tho report was deferred until next meeting in ordor that it might be ascertained whether tho old plumbors' shop would be suitable for tho purpose of the class. A report on tho. attendance of students at trado classes, hold in- the ovenings, was presented by tho'director (Mr. 'W. S. La Trobo). The number of-"bad attendee" (those who had mado less than 60 per cent, of attendance) was reported to be 25, as against about 40 in the first quarter of last year. The director intimated that the pupils were dttending hotter this year, tho averages being moro satisfactory all round. Tho financial Statement presented by tho secretary showed that the receipts, since last report, had been £401 lis. 7d. (the principal among the items being: Fees, £159; Government capitation, £168), and the expenditure had been £632 (salaries £493, general accounts £139). The debit balanco was shown to be £514, as against £449 at tho .corresponding period of last year. An account of £1800, tho capitation claim for the first quarter of the year, was reported to bo outstanding. Accounts amounting to £632 were passed for payment.
