In connection with tho declaration of tho Mufti (an official expounder of Mohammedan law) that the judges must ! refuse to sanction tho death sentence i passed on the Egyptian Premier's assassin (who has appealed against the sentence), it is semi-officially announced at Cairo that consultation with the Mufti is a pure formality, and that a sentence cannot be altered unless the Court of Cassation orders a new trial on Jegal grounds.
