CHAEGE AGAINST A SISTER OF' CHARITY. By Teleerrash-Presfl Association-Corniest Paris, May 22. In connection with ihe prosecution of Sister Candide, a well-known member of tho Sisters of Chnrity, and tho foundress of several hospitals, it has k transpired that Dr. Petit, head of tho Sister's charitable institutions, committed suicide. Ho loft papers accusing Sister Candide of embezzlement. Tho newspaper "Matin" states that Sister Candide's assets total ,£160,000 and her liabilities ,£320,000. It adds that thero is ovidenco of unbusinesslike pay-ing-away of lnrge sums of money without asking for receipts. [The chargo as reported in previous cablegrams is that Sister Candide obtained ,£BO,OOO worth of jewels from fifteen jewellers on credit, and sold the jowels to patrons of charities. Sister Candide refused to t<Jl tho magistrate) whoro tho money was, and denied that sho had pawned the jewels. Sho stated that the jewellers would bo paid in due oourso.] ANOTHER CLAIM. (Rcc. May 23, 11.10 p.m.) Paris, May 23. A fresh claim of ,£250,000 has been made against Sister Candide in connection with tho construction, of a sanatorium.
