REGARDING N.Z. FOOTBALL TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA.
Sir, —My attention has been drawn to somo notes on the personnel of the above team, and I was particularly surprised to notice, in tho criticism of Mynott that, in the opinion of your football scribe, "he lis not keen on going down to rushes."
Now, sir, correspondence concerning tho above may be of little effect, and perhaps not, altogether expedient, but I feel that it is not fair to the abovo player to let such a statement pass unchallenged. I am sure that anyone who has seen Mynott playing will think with me that if your scribe had wished to find a weak spot in his (Mynott's) play, ho could' not have done worse
than to allude to his defence, as he is, and always has been, recognised as especially strong in this department of tho game.
Your writer further mentions the fact that Mynott was not selected for any of the three tests against the AngloWelsh team in 1903, and that he was not included in the North Island team of last season. I would point out that Mynott was selected as emergency in both the first and third tests, and it was a matter of groat surprise, to Taranaki people at least, that ho was in the team itself. He would undoubtedly have been included iu tho North Island team had he not refused nomination in order to afford younger players an opportunity of proving their worth. In conclusion, I can assuro your scribe that if Mynott's defence is tho weak spot in' the team, it is undoubtedly ; a very strong team indeed.—l am, etc., ' FAIR PLAY.
