JOURNAL OF AGRICULTURE.

PUBLICATION ARRANGED. IMPORTANT STATEMENT BY MINISTER. Tho need for a journal of agriculture has long been remarked in New Zealand. Reference was niado to tho matter in The Dominion only on Wednesday last, and readers of this pago will be pleased to learn that the Department has now everything in train for tho early issuo of a monthly journal. It appears that the Minister, tho Hon. T. Mackenzie, has had the matter in view for some time past, and has long been of opinion that some moro frequent publication is needed than the annual report and tho irregular leaflets issued by tho Department from time to time. Speaking to a Dominion representative, Mr. Mackenzie said that a decision to publish a journal had been arrived at some little tirao ago. The idea was to produce something on the lines of the Australian Departmental journals.. Tho publication would bo illustrated, and '• would contain articles by the Departmental experts on matters of current and seasonable interest. Besides this it would include such outside contributions and extracted matter as seemed desirable to bring beneath the' notice of New Zealand farmers. The journal would be issued monthly, and the subscription would be purely nominal, a shilling or half-a-crown, or something of that sort, per annum, post free. Mr. Mackenzie said the idea of the subscription was not to defray the cost of publication, but simply _to make it necessary for. all persons on the mailing list to renew their application for the jonrnal annually. In this way the waste of money in forwarding copies to persona who were dead and removed would be avoided. The first issue of the journal ,had been arranged for next month, but unfortunately Mr. Bissett, the Editor of Publications to the Department, has fallen ill, and matters have been somewhat delayed in consequence. Everything, however, is stated to bo well forward, and on Mr. Bissett's recovery the new journal should make an early and welcome appearance.
