GIRL SCOUTS.

A LETTER, AND A REPLY. The idea of a corps of Girl Peace Scouts, which is in process of fonna- | tion in "Wellington, finds little favour in the eyes of at h&s\, one city headmaster. The other day ho received a letter from the Organising Officer (a lady), in which he was requested to ask the girls of his school "if any of them would like to join the Girl Peace Scouts." Tho Girl Scouts, it was explained, meet on Saturday afternoon* They learn first-aid, signalling, swim-' ming, life-saving, cooking, etc. They go out in charge of a and do not mix up with tho Boy Scouts. All girls over 11 years of age may join. The subscription is threepence per annum. Costume is a plain khaki drill blouso and skirt." To this he replied: "Rβ proposed Girl Scouts: I feel myself obliged to decline to recommend the proposal to the girls of my school, and, of course, for such a refusal ono should bo ablo to give a reason. The ono great evil among young people in this country is lack of homo control. Tho Boy Scout move- ■ mont threatens to scrionsly increase tho evil, unless the fad does as other fads do. The proposed Girl Scouts movement cannot do ovon the good that ia claimed for the Boy Scouts, but would do its full share of mischief in taking young girls .way from- that sphere which already possesses too little ol the affections of very many—th« , home."
