SUDDEN DEATH.

James Jack, employed as engineej by the contractor for the construction of the tunnel at Waipori for the City Corporation's hydro-«lectric works, died suddenly. He ceased work at midnight,, and after having breakfast returned to bed, where he died almost immediately afterwards. He was 46 years old, and leaves a widow and one child. A painful accident occurred near Waikohu (near Gisborno) on Saturday afternoon last, when Mr. W. S. Turner, a membor of the clerical staff of the Public Works Department at Otoko, had his leg fractured in two places. He was riding towards town, but in crossing a small bridge near Mr. Holdsworth's place, which had been damaged by the Easter floods, his horse slipped and fell, the weight of the animal being received by the rider's log on the edge of the bridge. He was conveyed to a private hospital. Last evening at 8.20 o'clock some excitement was caused on the Queen's Wharf by a man falling from the wharf into tho harbour. He waa quickly pulled out, none the worse for his immersion.
