MINING NEWS.
WELLINGTON SHAKE 3IARKET. Talismans, Wailite, and Waihi Gniuu Junctions were firm, with an advancing tendency yesterday. Thames. mining shares were steady. The chief movement was in iloss Goltiliclds, which show a strong upward tendency. Very little attention has been given to West Coast mining by Wellington speculators, and yet the prospects there are bright. Mining at deep levels has boon proved on the Coast. The New hi"* lliver mine has produced in the past two 'and a half years over £66,QC0 from the No. 9 level, 1375 ft. deep. The Progress mine is working out of two shafts, the deepest being 1300 ft.,, and is keeping 65 head of stampers running steadily. The energetic mine owned by the Consolidated Goldtields Company, has the deepest shaft in New Zealand, 1900 foot, and recently a reef at that depth has been cut iu the No. 9 level. The advance in Boss Goldfields will most likely direct closer attention to tho West Coast mining ventures. The sales recorded yesterday were as under:— Talisman, 525. 9d. (first call), 535.
