NOTES AND COMMENTS. IBy Glkncoe.j Aorangi is to be railed to Wanganui to-day to fulfil his engagement iu the Century Hurdles on Tuesday next. . The week after his arrival in Sydney, the New Zealand jockey, H. Cairns, had the mount on Zemin in a race at the Warwick Farm meeting and was just beaten by a head. The owner of Zenda, writing to a friend in Wellington, states that Cairns rode a iine race nnd added that he was sure to obtain sufficient riding in Australia. Lord Soult's full-brother Sir Antrim is said tu be as well now as he ever was and is to be sent to Wanganui to contest the Connolly Handicap next week. Whatakura and Ahuapai have been entered for events at the Dunedin Jockey Club's meeting next month. Another North Island horse entered at the same fixture is Merry Lawn. The following sales were effected last week on account, of Sir Wm. Russell:— Aged mare Rasulka, five guineas; aged mnre St. Katherine, 10J guineas; aged mare Intrepida, 10 guineas; six-year-old gelding Prohibitionist, .13 guineas; four-year-old gelding by Coeur de Lion—Rasulkn, 36 guineas; four-year-old gelding Scots Fusilier, 18 guineas. Gold Bird went through to Wanganui by yesterday morning's train. Tho Loveshot gelding appears to be in great heart and lias.no doubt made further improvement since he won the hurdle .race on the second day of the Trentham meeting. He has been well supported for tho Century Hurdles coupled with several horses in the Wanganui Steeplechase. The Soult pony Gloss, recently sold to an Australian sportsman,, will be shipped to Sydney by tho Moana on Friday next. As Audax has not been accepted for in the Great Northern Hurdles, A. Julian will (it is understood) have the mount on Diinbofvc in thut race. Dunborve has already won a couple of good hurdle races at the Auckland meetings, and is being fairly well supported in the Great Northern doubles. The owner of Moloch was in Wellington yesterday and states that his horse will compete, in fiat races at Wanganui next week and later at the Otaki fixture. He was tried over hurdles, but as he did not take to the business very kindly he,was not persevered with. T. Pritchard was offered the mount on Eeveral horses in the Century Hurdles at Wanganui, but will be required for Hydrant, an inmate of his brother's stable. As Hydrant is not among the acceptors for the Great Northern Hurdles, Pritohard will be free to accept any mount.' TRAINING AT WANGANUI. (By Tolesraph—Press Association.) Wanganui, May 17.
