MIRAMAR AFFAIRS.

SEA'S ENCROACHMENT AT SEATOUtf. At the meeting of the Miramar Borough Council last evening there were present: The Mayor (Mr. J. Brodie), and Councillors M'Leod, Muir, Bowie, ' Richards, and M'Clelland. A deputation waited on the council in. regard to the encroachment of the sea on • tho road and sections at the end of the sea-wall along the Marine Parade. Mr. A. Gooch stated that the bank had been so eaten away that in some places there was not more than four feet of roadway left. He suggested'that a rubble , wall should be constructed, at such ail angle that people would still be able to use the beach at both high and lowtides. At present there was practically no approach to sections at this place. Carts could riot use the road, and there was no other entrance. Tho matter was one of great urgency. Mr. W.-B. Reeves urged that tho council should restore tho road which formerly existed. ' ■ ' ; Mr. A. S. Henderson stated that the preventive work would not be of a costly nature. The Mayor said that the council sympathised with the deputation., A retaining wall, to be effective, would require to be sot well back, and he suggested that Jand-owners should give the council . a small strip of land along their frontages, otherwise they. could only have a makeshift wall and a very narrow road. Mr. S. If. Underwood urged that as tne present condition of the roadway was the result of the council's neglect, it was not fair that property-owners should be asked to give up any of their land. The Mavor promised that the council would do its very best to remody the trouble. ' The district fund account showed, a credit balance of JK-IS. Accounts were passed for payment to tho amount of JCII9 12s. 8(1. " , . A quantity of formal business was . transacted, and tramway accounts were considered in ■committee.
