5 ■■' CITY COUNCIL'S OFFER.. FOR LAND AT iYALL BAT. Tho trustees of the Crawford Estata have'written declining the City Council's ' offer to purchase 21 acres of foreshore and, sandhills at the east end of Lyall Bay, - without any stipulations whatever, for .£3500. The offer was made by the council aftel considering a proposal of the trustees ta selltho land atJeiSO an acre, subject to certain conditions, as to roads and access. - The desirableness of purchasing the land, if suitable terms could be arranged, was agreed to by the City Council, thf • idea being that this end of, the beach is peculiarly suitable .for bathing and sun-basking, and that- it' might be pos- . sible some day to construct a road and drive round the sea's edge from Lyall Bay to Seatoun.
