ADELAIDE CUP. By Telecraph—Press Association—Copyright (Roc. May 15, 5 p.m.) Adelaide, May 15. Tho Adelaide Cup resulted:—Me'daglia, 1; Topedi, 2; Prizefighter, 3. There were 21 starters. Medaglia took charge on entering the straight, and won easily by two lengths, there being a neck between second and third. Time, 2min. 51 l-ssec. NOTES AND COMMENTS. [Bγ Glencoe.] Owners are reminded that acceptances for tho first day's events at the Wanganui Jockey Club's winter meeting close at 9.30 to-night witli the club's secretary, Mr. William Hall. Telegrams should lie lodged early. Tilsoii was shipped to Sydney by the Mooraki on Friday last. Tho Lethe gelding bore a very bright appearance, and is probably as well now as he ever was. He should be able to hold his own ill any of the shorter steeplechase events on the other side. On Friday, at a meeting of tho general committee of the Ashburtou County Racing Club, it was decided to hold a winter race meeting on June 23 and 2-4, if the consent of tho president of the Eating Conference can be secured. The fixture is in lieu of the abandoned autumn meeting. The programme will include two open hurdle races, two hack hurdle races, and two trotting events. Continuance and Audax are the ruling favourites for the Century Hurdles at the Wanganui winter meeting. Backers would receive a surprise if either horse failed to survive tho acceptance to-night.
Paragon, winner of the Christchurch Autumn Handicap on May 7, appears to bo improving at the present time, and should win another raco or two before the season closes.
Reports from Melbourne state that the New Zealand-bred Nobel (Seaton Delaval —Problem) has been fired, and will be treated to a lengthy spell. Though a disappointing performer in ■ tho Dominion, Nobel showed promise when taken over to tho other side, and may yet win a race there.
Serenity, the four-year-old half-brother to Irisco, had been galloping smartly before going to Hawera, and was consequently well backed by Trainer Tilley'a legion of followers when he stepped out in the Ladies' Purse on Wednesday last. In tho race, however, he met with illfortune, for Kanewara ran wide at tho turn, and Serenity was carried out also and had his chances, spoiled. He should be benefited by the race. The Porirun stable has no representative in tlie Great Northern Hurdle Race, this year, but Lovell is among tho acceptors for tho steeplechase.
Although he is now of a good age, Shrapnel must be considered rather well treated in tho Great Northern Hurdles at Lllerslic. Prior to the Auckland Racing Club's Autumn meeting, tho big horso was galloping very well on tho fiat, and his failure to wiri a hurdle race at Easter-timo may be attributed to tho fact that ho had done no schooling. ' Now that the tracks are soft, his trainer will bo able to try him over the sticks occasionally, and improve his jumping considerably.
Tho connections of Voca regarded one race at Hawera as something, in the nature of a certainty for.their horse, but F. Colcman was "pocketed" at a critical stage of tho race, and, when he finally discovered an opening, it was too lato to make up the lost ground.
B. Doeley rode a very resolute race on Shining Star in the last ovont on the first day of tlie Egmont Racing Club's meeting. Jenkins, on Ambrosian, appeared to have tho race in hand at the turn, but Deeloy drow tlie whip on his mount, and, riding a vigorous finish, secured the victory. '
'Ono of tho bost hacks Been at tho Hawera meeting was, perhaps, Aiubrosiau. Notwithstanding tho fact that she was beaten twice, she should yet prove useful. Her form in the Oalts at Riccarton in the spring was distinctly good, and cannot be overlooked.
When the last mail left England, Neil Gow was a decided favourite for tho Derby, to be run next month.
Audax, it appears, < will not bo sent to win the doublo event (Hurdles and Steeples).at Ellerslio, for the acceptances as telegraphed on Friday night show that he has been left in the steeplechase only.
No doubt tlio owner of Clemora would bo very amused to read recently that his horse was well treated in tho Purua Hack Handicap at AVanganui. Nearly everyone, of course, knows that Clemora is no logger eligible to compete in hack races. Cleiriain is the name of the candidate weighted at 7st. 81b. in the Purua Hack Handicap at Wanganui.
Whatashot, who figures among the acceptors for tlio Maiden Hurdle Race at the Takapuna meeting, showed a lot of pace in the Avondalo Steeplechase, and the big lead ho had established when he came down made it appear as if he would bo hard' to beat in-a mile and a half race. Ee jumped clean and fast at Avondale, but his jockey was riding very short, and was shifted to a seat near the horse's oars when Whatashot, tiring, rapped a. fence, 'and, after going about 10 yards in this style, horse and rider parted company.
