HOTEL WORKERS.

$ NO HOPE OP CONCILIATION. A Conciliation Council was to have met on Saturday. to discuss claims put in by the employers in the hotel-workers' dispute. The claims submitted by the workers were discussed before the Conciliation Commissioner, Mr. P. Hally, in March last, and it was found impossible for the representatives of the two parties to arrive at a decision on them, with the result that the demands were referred to the Arbitration Court. Claims were then filed by the employers in their turn, but after very careful considers, tion Mr. Hally came to the decision that all the points raised in theso have been already fruitlessly discussed, and that it would bo useless for a Conciliation Council to consider them again. The employers' application will accordingly bo forwarded to the Clerk of Awards, who will probably refer it to the Arbitration Court.

The union wishes to havo the hours of women workers, which are now.sixtyfive a week, reduced by at least nine, and to this the employers will not agree. The employers also are unwilling to concede an increase of wages for lowergrade workers. In their claims, which otherwise follow fairly closely the terms of the old award, tho employers offer to fix tho statutory hours at eleven a day, all time in excess to be paid for as ove'r'titne.
