LIGHTNING AT ROTORUA.
HOTEL AND SHOPS STSTJCK. (By TeleeraDh—Press AssodatlonJ Rotorua, May 14. . During a storm et 1.30 this afternoon, lightning etruek the flagstaff at th* Grand Hotel and shattered it to splintere. The flag was flying half-mast at the time. A clerk in the Motor Coaching Company's office was thrown off his chair to the floor by the lightning, and, in a saddlery shop adjoining, one of the men, who was stooping down getting ao article from under a bench, was throwi to the ground. The electric lighting was interfered with in many shops, and other places to-night. The lightning assumed the shape of a ball of fire in the yard attached to tho Grand Hotel, and portions of the flagstaff were thTown to a considerable distance. The storm was of ehort duration, but was 6evero while it lasted.
