NOTES AND COMMENTS. i IBi Glencoe.J Kakama is being brought from Auckland to tho Wanganui meeting, and B. i Deeley will ride her and Stourton in their engagements. Acceptances for the first day's events at the Wanganui Jockey Club's meeting close on Monday night. Oxton is being educated for hurdle racing at Hastings, and Polyanthus and Maku aro among those that have, recently been schooled over the big country. Sir Artegal has been sold privately in Auckland. Mr. l -C. Morad is tho new owner, and the- Stepiuak gelding has gone into W..Mobberloy's-stable. The .horses trained, by. A. Attwood at Feiiding ' will not be taken to the Wanganui meeting. This course has been decided upon by the above-men-tioned trainer as he does not wish his horses to be ridden by anyone else but W. Young, who is at present without a license. Several errors occurred in the telegraphed list of the Wanganni weights, .and. from an,, official copy', ijrpplied by Mr. W. Hall, tho club's secretary, it is found-that Mah'arahui and Wooloomooloo have each ]ost. 51b. in the Hack Hurdles, Valentino has 7st. 131b. in tho Purua' Hack Handicap, Tarn Glen 7st. 121b., and Beacon-7st. 91b.-' It is stated that the --Australianbred Wooloomooloo was' very low in condition . after being landed at Hastings; 'and it-is.doubtful.if',ji'4 will be a starter- -at-Wanganui;---- :"■* « The Auckland Easter Handicap winner, Waiari,' will be ridden by S. Reid in his Takapuna engagements next week. > It is stated on good authority that Waione pulled up. very lame after being galloped at Porirua-last 'week, and'that he has been blistered oh "tho affected part. This will,; of, course, prevent) . .him...running as '•Ta'u'ifa ;i has last r two:vfiibnths, he<also, tfill be'uhable to start at tho Wanganui' meeting. The report that T.- Pritchard was before, the Egmont stewards -in connection with his' riding of Rcumac -in tho Corinthian Handicap on Thursday is quite inaccurate, inasmuch as Pritchard : did not have a mount in tho race, which was for' gentlemen riders only. .-. The. Trentham-traincd Advantage, Truganini, and Magneto: were railed ■to- Auckland by. the Main Trunk express' yesterday in charge of J. Low©. Jockey W. Ryan, who is to ride them in.' their 'northern engagements, joined the express at' Martbn. Winning jockeys at tho Hawera meetwere were: B. Deeley, 4; T. Pritchard, 2; H. Gray, 2; C. Mcnk, G. Jones, R. Young, and W. Ryan, 6ne each. An Australian buyer is at present negotiating for the purchase of Grucinclla. The Hastings double, El Dorado and Audax, have been backed for all the availablo money for tho Wanganui Steeples and Century Hurdles. This should remove tho impression that appears to exist in many quarters that neither of the.pair.would.be competing ' at Wangaiiui. The Cuirassier gelding, John, was very lame after competing in the MTlao Memorial Stakes ;at Hawera, and'he ' will require. to be spelled. There is ....very:little.likelihood of His being seen out at-Wanganui. •; F.- Carmont, who has ten horses in ' work at Levin,, is taking over the ■ stables lately occupied by A. Shearsby. Magneto, whoso form of late has been very much below '.par; is reported to have come-on a-lot of late, hence her owner's decision to; send her to tho Takapuna meeting. I .. '. T Pritchard has been engaged to' ride Kiatere in tho Great Northern Steeplechase. F Davis's team at "Greonmeadows . includes Cullman, Star . and Garter, and Kohinoor, all of whom claim tho samo siro and dam. ■ The ex-New Zealand jockey, .S. • Howie, who has been riding in Victoria , for somo years, has now.set up as a trainer in that State, and has.half-a-dozen horses in his charge. C Jenkins, who rode Contralto in the • last race on tbe second day of the i Hawera mooting,,was fined ill), tar interfering with tho rider of Starboard. 1 Stourton was tho only double winner at tho Egmont Racing Club's Winter meeting on Wednesday,, and Thursday. I To Puia, who raced consistently at ■ the Summer and Autumn meetings, is ■ to be spelled at To Makanga station > during tho winter. 1 Leo (Leolantis—Bracelet) has shown great promise when schooled over the big country at Ellorslio. He wffl be a competitor in tho principal steeplechase events during the winter season. C Cress, who sustained a broken collar-bono through a fall in the Avondalo Steeplechase-last month, will pro--1 bably bo well enough to resume riding ° at the Takapuna Jockey Club s meeting r next week. Applications are invited for the posi--1 tion of handicapper to the West Coast ■ (South Island) Racing Clubs. _ Parti- ,. culars are advertised m this issue '• Serenity, who was mado favourite for : , the Ladies' Purse at Hawera on Wed- ; nesday, and who failed to - return a .. dividend,. will bo given a ' clmncc to ;. atone for the'l.dofeat when tho Wanga- ;, nui meeting', comes round..
