Society, the chairman,' in his address, referred to the large .increase in the new business, the reduced rate of expenditure, the improved rate of interest, and tho increased rate of cash bonus. The year's business was .a record. '.'■'■ Mr. A. de B. Brandon, one of the New Zealand directors, in supporting the motion for the adoption of the report, said, comparing the returns of the A.M.P. with the New Zealand Government Insurance Department, which was a most formidable competitor of tho A.M.P., they found that the latter society was steadily _ working its -way to the premier position. He had reason'to believe thai in new'business for 1909 it would exceed that of tho Government Department.
