J. G. WARD. God' Save the King! The following notification has been issued -regarding the public observance as to mourning:— j PLUNKET, Governor. ORDER IN COUNCIL. At the Government Buildings, at Wellington this ninth day of May,-1910. The Right -J. G. Ward, K.C.M.G., presiding in Council. His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of Nc\y Zealand, having been advised by tho Secretary of State for the Colonies of the lamented death of His Most Gracious Majesty King Edward the Seventh, and acting by' and with tho advice and consent of the Executive- Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby enjoin as follows upon his late Majesty's loving and lamenting. subjects- in tho said Dominion in token of their grief and sorrow for tho groat loss the Empire has sustained:— 1. All ministers of religion find all congregations ■ are invited on Sunday, the fifteenth instant, and also on tho day appointed for tho funeral of his late Majesty, to hold solemn services of public worship and mourning on behalf of the people of the Dominion. 2. The Now Zealand onsign, with a scarf of crape attached to tho flagstaff one foot above the flag, shall bo displayed at half-mast on all public buildings in tho Dominion till sunset each day and until sunset of tho day appointed for the funeral. 3. All ships in tho various harbours of tho Dominion are invited to display their ensigns at half-mast each day until and including tho day of the funeral. 4. All officers of the Government are enjoined to wear mourning until further notified, and all other subjects of his late Majesty are requested to do the same, in such manner as their> loyalty and feelings direct. 5. And, generally, until after tho day of the funeral, it is enjoined that all festivities of a public nature bo suspended, and that on that day all placos of business and public ontertainnicnt be closed. In order to secure uniformity of action, the following suggestions are made by tho Government:— "That a close day of mourning be observed on the occasion of the funeral of King Edward. "A general holiday on that day will bo proclaimed lnt-er. "Women ami girls are asked to wear a band of black ribbon on tho right arm above tho elbow, and men to wear a strip of black ribbon on tho lapel of tho coat until after tlio funeral of tbo King."
