THE MAIL NEGOTIATIONS
. SIR JAMES MILLS AND AUCKLAND. (Br Mesraph.-Pross Association.) , Auckland, May 7. Mr, J. H. Gunson, president of the Chamber of Commerce, stated fawlay that he was' keeping in close touch with Sir James Mills, (managing director of. the Union .Steam Ship Company) who is at present in Melbourne, in regard to the Vancouver mail proposals. Testerday Mr. Guuson cabled: "Is thcro any prospect of. Auckland, .being made , the port of calif , " to which Sir James Mills replied: "Negotiations still proceeding." To this Mr. Gunson answered: "Thanks; trust for successful issue; advise as. soon;as possible." Sir James had previously cabled to Mr. Gunson: "If I find, -after visiting Australia, that there is no probability of. altering tho present arrangement, I' will communicate with you, arid shall,-he glad, of your assistance."
