OROUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
(Br TdeErub.— Bioolsl OarnsooslnlJ Folldlng, May 6. The monthly meeting of the Oroua County Council to-day was attended by: Councillors G. C. Wheeler (chairman), J. H: Vincent, Thomas Rowling, W. 6. Pearce, and Hugh' Burrell. The chairman was appointed fco represent the council at the Governor's reception at Feilding next Saturday morning.
Mr. F. Y. Lethbridge was appointed to represent the council on. the Feilding Technical' School Committee. The Westland County Council wrote asking co-operation in amending,.the' procedure in ' compiling ■ the. .county, electoral .rolls. , ......... , : .-.- ,:'. -.■'.....
' The' Kairanga Council complained, of the spread of noxious weeds and suggested that united action be taken, to bring pressure' to bear upon'the authorities for the enforcement ,of the Noxious Weeds Act. The council decided that the matter be left to the inspectors. The Superintendent of Electric Lines forwarded .a statement showing . that the Stanway Telephone .Office was more than self-supporting.- ' At the request of -the Bunnythorpe Domain Board, the council decided to form and metal an entrance to the recreation ground, and to clean, out the drain in Ingleby Street, fronting the Recreation Ground. It was decided to call the attention of the ranger to the straying of cattle on the Eimbolton Road, as stock had been ■ getting • through' to. the • river, and doing damage to the protecting willows along the banks.
■ ■ The treasurer .'reported as follows: — j General rates levied, £4783 10s. Id. ; collected, £4590. Bank balances: General account, dr.,. £1795 15s. 9d.; interest account,- cr., £17 Is. Bd.; gorge, bridge account, dr., £181 6s. 10d.; No. 21 loan, dr., £459 13s. 8d!; No. 22 loan, cr., £98 7s. The following alterations were made in the rate Toll Koberstein to K. S. and M. R. Prior, Block X, 9 acres, estate Zohrab, to Lovelock Brothers. Ashhurst, 1 rood 4 perches, R. H. Drummondto W. Allwright,-Section 50, Block 111. Gorge S.D., 1 rood, William Masters to W. Flemming; Section 8, Block VII, Kairanga S.D.,' 147 acres, A. B. ftl'Lennan to K. Larsen; Section 15, Mugby Junction, 1 rood.
! Under,the.subject of noxious weeds, field daisies were -particularly mentioned. One councillor thought that it would be fatal to some land holders to compel them to eradicate' all the daisies on their farms, as ■ these weeds wero so well established. Another councillor said that he had daisies on his property twenty years, ago,.but he had no more now than then. He had ruthlessly fought the weed all the. time, and had instructed his men; never- to pass a daisy without pulling .it up. Now, whilst other farms in the locality were smothered with white • flowers in the season, the weeds on his property could'be gathered'in one hand.
