MASTERTON. Dr. Henry's • mission, after a week's campaign in Masterton, left on Friday morning for Auckland. Prior to their departure the mission party, together with the members of the local executive, their wives, and a few friends w.ere entertained at the Methodist Schoolroom. Brief speeches were delivered . by ' the local minsters, and Dr. Henry and hia party were warmly thanked for the work which they had accomplished during their sojourn in Masterton. The members of the Masterton Bowling Club held a "social" reunion in the Exchange' Hall on Thursday evening. There was a good attendance, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club completed another of the young-bird races on Thursday afternoon, with a successful flight from Napier—an airline of 130 miles. Forty-four birds, representing twelve lofts, competed, and the finish was one of the most interesting of the season. The race leaves the young-bird aggregate as follows: —J. Bradbury, 14 points; W. Drako, 10 points; W. Howe, 9 points; H. Wilton, 8 points; A. Stiller, 7 points; J. Syverston, 6 points. There is still another race to be flown in thiß competition. The young-bird championship will bo flown on Saturday week for the cup presented by Mr. Rangi Kerehoma. OTAKI. A sitting of the S.M. Court took place yesterday, when, in the absence of the magistrate, Messrs. Rolio ■ and Freeman, J.P.'s, occupied the Bench. Four Chinamen, charged with working on Sunday, in view of the public, were each fined Is., and costs 7s. Two cyclists—Watts and Wellington — charged with riding at night without lights, were each fined 25., costs 7s. Charles Crabb, charged with fishing in the Otaki River without a license, appeared to answer an information laid by the Acclimatisation Society. The case was dismissed, it being pointed out that the river was . a public fishingground. Notice of appeal was given. A few minor, civil cases were also dealt with. Another sitting of the court will be held on May 13. , Constable Shaw left yesterday morning, to bring in a man from the Otaki Gorge, who is said, to be mentally/deranged. 1 WAIHOANCA. One of the bushfallers engaged falling Mr. Judd's bush, jn the Waitohora Valley, has developed certain mental symptoms. Constable Shaw, of Otalti, was out early yesterday morning to bring him in for examination, but it appears that he evaded the vigilance of his master, and escaped into the bush. When the constable arrived no trace of him conld be discovered, .and up to the present he is still at large. ;
