• The. Ulimaroa's big shipment' of. draughts for Sydney yesterday ; was made up as follows J. D. Mitchell, Hawera, 21 horses; New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company, Hawera, 20 horses; and : Messrs. Hoult and Sons, Feilding, 31 horses. This makes a grand total of 72 _ horses, and forms one of the biggest shipments sent . across to Australia. The Nelson Freezing Company has installed a cool chamber for the .storage of fruit, The chamber has a capacity of 6000 bushel cases of apples, a considerable portion of which has been applied for already. Fourteen bags of pure clover seed was threshed last week in four hours from four acres on Mr. Selby Weaver's farm at Killinchy, Canterbury. A lino of exceptionally fine merino wethers, carrying sixteen months' wool, was sold at Addington oh Wednesday .for 225. 6d. a head. The Shannon branch of tho Farmers' Union has elected tho following officers for tho year:—Chairman, Mr. C. 13. Robinson; vice-chairman, Mr. Alex. Saunders; secretary,, Mr. E. J. Judd; auditor, 'Mr. ,). \V. Uatchelar; winmittee, Messrs. Law, Mitchell, Stephenson, Oag, Venn, Cameron and Ryman. A noticeable featuro in this branch of tho Fanners' Union is the number of. now members that havo joined lately.. It is proposed to erect a dairy factory at Waipawn. At a meeting a few days ago, Mr. T. M. Bloor said £2000 was sent out of Waipawa annually for butter. He had been promised tho milk of 320' cows for a fac tory. It was decided to obtain signed guarantees from tho different dairy farmers. Tho Geraldino branch of tho Farmers' Union lias decided to take no steps in connection with tho Gishorno meatgrading proposal. One speaker said there was always jealousy in the North Island in regard to tho South. In tho North they could not fatten lambs without shearing them .first, and a friend of his told him he -never saw fat lambs till ,-Jio caino .'to-Canterbury. The North Islanders wanted to get their sheep graded as high as Canterbury, and no Government grader could do that, however he. tried. Mr. A. M'Kce, of Eiwaka, has sold 4500 cases of fruit from' three acres of orchard. Tho Nelson "Colonist" cays thero .are plenty of other yields in tba district that run this close.
