CONDEMNED CATTLE.
i SYSTEM OF INSURANCE. The city butchers have maugurated B.'system of insurance against loss on cattle condemned at the abattoirs or killed in transit to Wellington. The Government allowances on condemned beasts is much below the full value, and it is how supplemented from the insur-ance-fund. On every bullock the seller and the vendor each pay Is., and on every cow Is. fid., so that tho premiums are respectively 2s. and 3s. on each class of beast. Sheep, are not included in the scheme, and there is no regulation as to the inspection of pigs. Tho system applies only to the Johnsonvillo market. Messrs. Abraham . and WiViiams,< the principal. auctioneers, pay the fee on.each beast sold, collecting it from the original vendors. The buyer alsq fee on receiving delivery. The scheme includes now over a dozen firms of butchers. The allotment of insurance is in the hands of a committee, consisting•; of Messrs. Roid, Garrett, and Hampton.
